FAQ
What is the level of the All-round aircraft assembler programme?
The level of the course is MBO 3. The programme is a 2-year BBL course. BBL stands for Beroeps Begeleidende Leerweg. This means that at GKN Fokker you mainly learn by working.
How many days do I go to college and to GKN Fokker?
You will work 4 days a week at GKN Fokker. You will also go to school 1 day a week for theory lessons. These classes are at Da Vinci College in Dordrecht or Alfa College in Hoogeveen.
Which subjects will I take at college?
The subjects you will take at Da Vinci College or Alfa College include theoretical subjects such as materials, general aircraft technology, construction theory and reading drawings. You will also take subjects such as English and communication skills.
How does the programme work?
You first start with theory lessons on aircraft construction. You then learn to work with different materials and fasteners. The programme focuses on learning on the job. You will therefore have more and more practical lessons alongside theory lessons. To put what you have learned into practice even further, you will also follow several internships of 6 to 7 weeks.
Where can I do an internship?
You will complete several internships at GKN Fokker. During your internship, you will learn to work with different materials and apply various techniques. Within your internship period, you will also get to know the various departments within GKN Fokker.
Do I get paid during the training?
In the first year, you will receive 100% of the statutory minimum youth wage. In the second year, you will receive 110% of the statutory minimum youth wage if you perform well.
Do I have holidays and days off?
Holidays are always taken in consultation with your supervisor at the workplace. As a BBL apprentice, you are not automatically free during school holidays. If you want to take holidays, this must always be arranged so that you do not miss any compulsory training days. For example, if an exam or other mandatory meeting falls on a working day, you may take that day off without it being designated as a holiday. In consultation with your supervisor, you can replace the usual school day in that week or get that day off work. Your summer holiday is slightly shorter than you are used to. It lasts 2 to 3 weeks.
How does the application procedure work?
You first register for an open day or open evening. This is followed by an aptitude test. This is a technical test in which we test your sense of aviation. If you pass the test, you will be invited for an interview. If we think you are suitable, you will be registered for the BBL training programme All-round aircraft assembler.
